What is the sensitivity setting on my detector used for?

This article discusses the detector sensitivity setting and what it is used for.

Diablo Controls detectors will have a sensitivity dial to adjust the following:

  • Change In Inductance (%ΔL/L) - change in inductance caused by a vehicle passing over the detection loop
  • Response Time - time required to detector a vehicle and produce an output signal

Adjust the sensitivity dial up or down based on your application to accommodate different loop sizes or free-exit probes. This sensitivity setting helps to dial in the loop or probe when you have interference traffic or things you do not want the detector to pick up.

Sensitivity adjustments can be made in steps. Refer to the user manual for your specific detector for more information.

Some detectors will have a "hi" or "low" DIP switch for adjustments.
