Why is my detector not detecting vehicles?
This article discusses troubleshooting steps to determine why the detector is not triggering on vehicles.

- No Power: Confirm correct voltage (Usually 12-24V AC/DC for Diablo Controls detectors) and make sure power LED is turning on.
- Poor connection: Ensure the loop or probe wires are securely installed on the terminal block with no loose, weak, or rusted connections.
- Wired Incorrectly: Check gate operator manual and detector manual to know where to connect relays and (in some of our plug-in product's) where to connect loop or probe wires into operator.
- Sensitivity Settings: If sensitivity is set too low, the detector may fail to detect smaller vehicles or high-bed trucks. Try increasing the sensitivity level.
- Damage or open Loop or Probe: Broken wire strands, degraded insulation, or non-waterproof wire splices create intermittent shorts. Check circuit continuity and verify loop resistance with a multimeter (expected range: 0.5-7 μH).
- Insufficient Loop inductance (μH): The loop circuit may not have enough wire turns, or the loop geometry is too small for the lead-in length, resulting in inductance below our operating threshold. Connect the loop wires to an LCR meter set to measure inductance (L). Our detectors operate within 20-1500 μH (with 80 μH or higher being ideal).
- Bad loop, probe or detector: Test with a known-good spare. If available, connect a test loop, spare loop, spare probe, or spare detector to isolate the issue. If the fault stays with the loop, inspect or replace the loop/probe; if the fault stays with the unit, replace the detector.
