Why does my gate open randomly without a vehicle on the loop?

1. Wired Incorrectly: Check gate operator manual and detector manual to know where to connect relays and (in some of our plug-in product's) where to connect loop or probe wires into operator.
2. Poor connection: Ensure the loop or probe wires are securely installed on the terminal block with no loose, weak, or rusted connections.
3. Sensitivity Set Too High: Excessive sensitivity allows the loop to detect moving metal outside the target area (such as the moving gate panel, nearby metal fences, passing traffic, or lawn equipment, etc.). If adjustable, reduce the sensitivity.
4. Damage or open Loop or Probe: Broken wire strands, degraded insulation, or non-waterproof wire splices create intermittent shorts. Check circuit continuity and verify loop resistance with a multimeter (expected range: 0.5-7 μH).
5. Moisture Intrusion & Failed Sealant: Cracked, deteriorated, or missing sealant allows water to enter the loop slot or probe hole. Moisture changes the capacitance/resistance between the loop wires and ground, causing the detector to register ghost calls during rain or high humidity.
6. Loose Loop or Prove in the ground: If loop or probe has air pockets created due to cracks on the road or a bad installation probe might move inside the hole. If metals are nearby, it might create false reading due to the movement on the street or even vibration of the vehicles passing by. or on top of the loop.
7. Bad loop, probe or detector: Test with a known-good spare. If available, connect a test loop, spare loop, spare probe, or spare detector to isolate the issue. If the fault stays with the loop, inspect or replace the loop/probe; if the fault stays with the unit, replace the detector.
