Why does my gate stay stuck open?
This article discusses troubleshooting steps for events that would cause a gate to stay stuck open.

- Detector is on Fail-Safe mode: If the detector senses an open circuit, short circuit, or damaged loop/probe wires, it automatically defaults to a Fail-Safe condition. In Fail-Safe mode, the output relay locks into a continuous "call" state to keep the gate open for safety until the sensor fault is resolved or the detector is unplugged.
- Incorrect DIP Switch Settings: If using a magnetometer/probe instead of a standard inductive loop, ensure the corresponding DIP switch is set correctly. Selecting the wrong sensor mode will cause the detector to misread input inductance/frequency and hold the relay closed.
- Incorrect Relay Wiring: The output relay may be wired to the wrong terminal on the gate operator board. Consult both the gate operator and detector manuals to verify whether the operator's open or safety input requires a Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) contact and wire the relay terminals accordingly.
- Gate Operator Control Board Fault: The issue may lie with the gate operator rather than the detection system. To test this, disconnect the detector harness or wire leads from the operator board. If the gate remains open, the fault is within the operator board or another attached accessory.
- Bad loop, probe or detector: Test with a known-good spare. If available, connect a test loop, spare loop, spare probe, or spare detector to isolate the issue. If the fault stays with the loop, inspect or replace the loop/probe; if the fault stays with the unit, replace the detector.
